Our research group focuses on breast tumor initiation and progression. Our work is interdisciplinary and translational. Our projects cover identifying the cell of origin of breast tumors, elucidating how the early and non-invasive lesions transition to invasive cancer, improving patient stratification based on molecular profiles, and identifying moelcular determinants for endocrine resistance. We use patient cohorts and animal models (transgenic and patient-derived xenograft - PDX) in our studies. We apply and develop high-throughput genomic technologies, functional assays, lineage-tracing and, in situ hybridization techniques. We apply and develop statistical and bioinformatics tools. Through an increased understanding of how tumors progress to more advances stages, improved strategies for early intervention and more precise treatment can be developed.
