He received numerous publically funded grants in basic and clinical science, including EU grants and NIH grant. He served on the EASD council and is co-organizer of 15 annual meetings of the ATTD (Advanced Technologies and Treatment of Diabetes). He served on the editorial boards of the European Journal of Endocrinology and Pediatric Diabetes, and currently with Diabetes Care and Acta Diabetologica, and as reviewer for international journals and European Research Council grant committees.
His laboratory for molecular genetics and metabolism is equipped for complete DNA, RNA and protein diagnostics with high throughput NGS sequencing, long-reads sequencing, tandem mass spectrometry, arrays.
He is a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, and an associate member of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts.
