Suzanna Becker received the B.A. degree in psychology in 1982 from Queen's University, Kingston, ON, Canada, the M.Sc. degree in 1985 in computer science from Queen's University, and the Ph.D. degree in computer science in 1992 from the University of Toronto, Toronto, ON.
She spent the summer of 1992 as a visiting academic with the Department of Psychology at the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia, one year (from 1992 to 1993) as a postdoctoral fellow at the Rotman Research Institute, Toronto, and has since been a faculty member at McMaster University, Hamilton, ON, where she is now an Associate Professor of psychology, as well as Adjunct Professor with the Department of Computing and Software. Her research interests are in computational models of coding and information processing in the cortex and hippocampus, spatial and episodic memory systems, cortical control mechanisms, neuromodulatory control of learning and motivated action, and models of auditory processing and reorganization after peripheral hearing loss.
Dr. Becker was the recipient of a five-year WFA fellowship from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada in 1992. She served as Program Chair in 2001 and General Chair in 2002 for the Neural Information Processing (NIPS) Society Conference and is currently a member of the NIPS Advisory Board.
