Sujoy Banerjee

Dr. Sujoy Banerjee is a Consultant Neonatologist and Clinical Director of Children and Young People Services at Swansea Bay University Health Board, UK. He is based at Singleton Hospital, Swansea which is a designated neonatal intensive care unit and a subspeciality training centre in neonatology. Besides clinical work, he takes keen interest in medical education and is an Honorary Professor and a senior faculty at the Swansea University Medical School. He leads the intensive care module on the MSc Programme in Neonatal Medicine at Cardiff University. Sujoy qualified from University of Calcutta, India, where he also completed his MD and postgraduate training in paediatrics. He undertook his neonatal subspecialty training in London and took up his consultant post in Swansea in 2006 . He has special interest in feto-maternal temperature relationship, neonatal advanced respiratory support, antibiotic stewardship and Quality Improvement methodology and has published on these topics in peer reviewed journals. Sujoy led a multidisciplinary team at Singleton NICU on a sustainable programme of prudent antibiotic reduction, ‘Managing Antibiotics Wisely’, that won the NHS Wales Award in 2017 and was the finalist of the National BMJ Awards 2016 and 2020. He successfully led a national antibiotic stewardship programme in Wales incorporating an adapted ‘Kaiser Permanente Sepsis Risk Calculator’ into clinical practice, safely reducing antibiotic use for EOS screening and management by 46%. He received the 2020 Gopi Menon award from the British Association of Perinatal Medicine for improving Quality in Perinatal care. He is the Course Director of a highly successful neonatal ventilation course in the United Kingdom and an ex-convenor of the Swansea Perinatal Symposium. He received the National Bronze Award for Clinical Excellence in 2018. He serves on the Board of the Wales Maternity and Neonatal Network and the National Data Analysis Unit in the UK.
