Research focus: Resonance ionisation spectroscopy has applications in basic science - to understand the properties of atoms and the processes in stars where the elements are produced. It also has application in the production of radiopharmaceuticals that are used in medical diagnostic scans and in cancer therapy. We also use lasers to ionise and control single trapped ions to study the behaviour of entangled qubits.
