Prof. Alabi Soneye, Professor of Geography and Dean of School of Postgraduate Studies, University of Lagos. He was born some 52 years ago in Abeokuta, Nigeria. He had his pre-university education at Abeokuta Grammar School (1977 – 1982; WASCE) and School of Basic Studies Ijebu Ode (1983-1985). He had his University degree in Geography and Planning from the University of Lagos as follows: • Bachelor of Arts (B.A., 1987); • Master of Science (M.Sc., 1990) and • Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D., 1999). Prof. Soneye is trained at the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada in 1991 for his core specialization area of Geospatial techniques. Prof. Soneye is a key Nigerian player his areas of education, research and professional practices as follows: • Geo-Spatial Techniques (Geo-Information Systems, Cartography, Remote Sensing and Spatial statistics) • Environment, Resources and Socio-Economic Analysis • Community Development • Disasters Studies, and • Hospital Services Quality, Atmosphere and Outcome He is Dean School of Postgraduate Studies of the University of Lagos and Head Geography Department in the University for some time. He has facilitated many degree programmes for the University of Lagos, his employer. Prof. Soneye boasts of appreciable numbers of national and foreign research collaborators and partners especially in Africa, Europe, North America and Asia. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Lagos Journal of GIS, Editor and Reviewers to many journals. He is widely travelled. He has successfully supervised 11 Ph.D. Theses, more than 150 Masters and many Bachelors Degrees. He has about 100 publications in standard academic journals, presentation at leaned conferences and invited Papers and Lectures across the globe. Prof. Alabi Soneye is married with kids.
