Shamsoddin Mohajerzadeh was born in Tehran, Iran, in 1964. He received the bachelor’s degree in electronics from the Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, in 1989, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Waterloo , Waterloo, ON, Canada, in 1992 and 1996, respectively. He joined the University of Tehran as a Lecturer in 1996, where he is currently a Professor with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He has written more than 250 journal and conference papers and has filed four U.S. patents. While studying for the Ph.D. degree, he worked on epitaxial growth of silicon and Si-Ge films on silicon. He is now interested in thin-film transistor fabrication on glass and plastic substrates, light emitting silicon-based nanostructures, flexible plasma display panels, carbon nanostructures and more recently deep micromachining of PET and silicon substrates. At the present time, he is working on carbon and silicon nanotubes and their application in device fabrication. In addition, he is trying to develop a method to realize graphene nanoribbon for transistor fabrications. Apart from nano-electronic works, he is interested in cancer cell detection by means of nanotubes. Nano-lithography and 3-D fabrication and integration are new subjects that he is working on. Most recently, he has become interested in the realization of high sensitivity electronic sensors for cancer cell detection and analysis. The use of ultra-small silicon and carbon-based hollow needles and hollow tubes seems to have great application for water desalination and purification. He is now willing to enterprise this hectic field and discover the effect of external voltages on the concentration of ions within see-water.
