I am a Research Professor at NORCE Norwegian Research Centre's Climate & Environment division. I obtained my PhD from Columbia University in 2010. After a year of postdoctoral study at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill I moved to Bergen, Norway, where I have resided since. I am a member of the Regional Climate and Climate Services group and I lead a research theme on Regional Climate Impacts and Modeling. In addition I am an active member of the Bjerknes Centre for Climate research where I co-lead the Global research theme and a group loosely gathered around climate dynamics. Currently my research activities flow along three interwoven and complementary strands. One is an evolution of my interests in the large scale circulation to address challenges related to climate prediction, representation of key features and responses of the system to external forcing. The second zooms in to local and regional scales where I work to improve our understanding of physical drivers of climate impacts in places where they are most acutely experienced. The third strand aims to distill basic and applied research into useful climate information knowledge and services. This last has resulted in many fruitful collaborations with researchers and practitioners with backgrounds in Social Sciences and Humanities as well as industry and public sector professionals.
