Ph.D.: Landscape Ecology-GIS-Remote Sensing. Institute of Applied Ecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenyang, P. R. China, 1990. M.S.: Soil Geography and Biogeography, Geosciences Division, Graduate University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Beijing) and the Institute of Applied Ecology (Shenyang) of Chinese Academy of Sciences, P. R. China. B.S.: Soil Science, Soil Science Department, Shenyang University of Agriculture, Shenyang, P. R. China.
Associate Professor, Department of Forestry, University of Missouri, 2006 to present。 Adjunct Professor of Institute of Applied Ecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, 2001 to present。 Assistant Professor, Department of Forestry, University of Missouri, 2000 to 2005. Associate Scientist, Department of Forest Ecology and Management, University of Wisconsin Madison, 1997 to 1999. Postdoctoral Fellow, Department of Forest Ecology and Management, University of Wisconsin Madison, 1993 to 1996. Research Assistant Professor, Remote Sensing Application Laboratory, Institute of Applied Ecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, 1991 to 1992.
His research interest is to study landscape response to various natural and social factors over large spatial and temporal domains by linking spatial models with geographic information systems. Projects with both theoretical significance and application potential are among his research priorities. He's research equally emphasizes advances in landscape ecology such as theories of spatial modeling and landscape metrics, and geographic information science such as GIS and remote sensing data integration, GIS interpolation, visualization, and analytical approaches. He has been working with colleagues in developing a spatially explicit forest landscape model (LANDIS) linked with GIS. LANDIS is adapted and used by more than 30 individual groups of research institutions, government agencies, and private industry in the U.S.A., Canada, Finland, Scotland, Switzerland, China and India. More recently, proposals in which the LANDIS model serves as a major simulation tool have been funded by National Science Foundation, USDA and other U.S. and European funding agencies.
