个人简介
I have worked on the epilepsy surgery programs since qualifying as a clinical psychologist in 1992.
I have over 180 academic publications in epilepsy, including books, book chapters and original research studies. My clinical research interests cover a broad spectrum of neuropsychological concerns in epilepsy and my publications range from studies of the neural substrate of cognitive deficits in seizure disorders to looking at ways in which the ongoing stigma associated with the condition can be reduced. My research is driven by my commitment to evidence based clinical practice, and has been conducted to answer the questions that come up in everyday clinical practice. Epilepsy surgery is an elective procedure and it is imperative that prospective candidates are able to make an informed decision about the risks and benefits of the treatment before they proceed. As clinicians we have a duty to provide our patients with full and accurate information to help them make this decision. My clinical and research endeavours are dedicated to improving the accuracy of the information we provide with respect to the cognitive risks of epilepsy surgery and reducing these risks wherever possible. In my current role as the Chair of ILAE Diagnostics Methods Commission I am committed to broadening the application of evidenced based practice across the entire range of diagnostic procedures in epilepsy via the publication of authoritative guidelines for clinical practice and the provision of accessible introductory and advanced training courses for clinicians wherever they practice.
