Principal scientist at Lhasa Limited, working on the development of software to further the role of in silico tools in the prediction of chemical toxicity.
At Lhasa I am lead scientist for the research & development of Lhasa's management of mutagenic impurities. As the lead scientist for Sarah Nexus, I am responsible for model development of Lhasa's statistical-based tool for accurate prediction of Ames mutagenicity. Working closely with colleagues & Lhasa members, I also develop the ICH M7 functionality in Nexus which provides members with a complete solution for the accurate classification of mutagenic impurities for regulatory submission under the ICH M7 guideline. I am also a member of the Derek Nexus team, providing me with experience of developing structure-activity relationships for multiple toxicological endpoints, including carcinogenicity, genotoxicity & skin sensitisation. While the day-to-day work is interesting & challenging, the real enjoyment is the opportunity to work closely with world leading scientists within the field of chemical toxicology & ensuring that the software developed is a genuine solution for their requirements.
Before joining Lhasa Limited, I trained as an organic chemist at University of Sheffield before taking a job as a synthetic chemist at a growing CRO. Although always fancying a move out of the laboratory, this training was fundamental to understand chemical structures & reactivity that underpin the mechanisms of toxicity I am researching in my current role.
I am keen to promote science to the public & have been a committee member, including chair, for the local Royal Society of Chemistry section, helping to promote the chemical sciences by organising events for schools & the general public.
