Robert Courtney

My core expertise and the majority of my research focuses on the life cycle, ecology and physiology of box jellyfish with particular emphasis on the Irukandji jellyfish Carukia barnesi. Since 2008 I have been a core team member of TASRU (Tropical Australian Stinger Research Unit) which is a diverse mix of both medical and biological researchers, based not only at JCU but throughout Australia, America and Europe. Between 2009 and 2013 I ran an experimental hatchery for the department of primary industries, at the Northern Fisheries Centre as part of the Tropical Rock Lobster Research Program.
