个人简介
Ricardo Ferreira is the Principal Investigator of the Spintronics research group at INL. He is also coordinating the ICT research area.
He received his PhD in Physics Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) in 2008 upon his work on ion beam deposited magnetic tunnel junctions targeting hard disk drive read heads, non-volatile memories and magnetic field sensor applications. INESC-MN was the host institution during his PhD and also the lab where he conducted his research as a Post-Doctoral Fellow until joining INL. Ricardo’s research has always concerned the production of magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJs) and their optimization targeting different applications. Ricardo participated in the TAS-MRAM European Project which demonstrated the ability to reduce the writing currents of memory cells down to levels compatible with production and the capacity to prevent the increase of the switching current with bit density. The TAS-MRAM project was the 2nd Finalist of the Descartes Prize for Excellent European Research in 2007, awarded by the European Commission. At INL the work of Ricardo has been focused on the production of MTJs using MgO barriers and the development of two high yield and high uniformity fabrication processes on 200mm wafers : a micro-fabrication process (for the production of devices down to 1µm2) and a nanofabrication process (for the production of devices <50nm).
The current research goals include the linearization of full signal MgO MTJs, production of pT magnetic field sensors, the production of devices that explore spin transfer effect (STT nano-oscillators, MRAM cells), the incorporation of perpendicular magnetization materials on MTJs and the integration of MTJs with MEMS and CMOS devices. He is co-author of 99 peer-reviews publications.
