We are working on the development of testing systems to evaluate xenobiotics-induced toxicity and identification of cellular and molecular events involved in the pathogenesis of different diseases (with a focus on the liver). The mechanisms of organ toxicity in vitro (cells and isolated organelles) and in vivo (Animal models) is our interest. A primary emphasis of our projects is the elucidation of the molecular mechanisms for impairment of biological systems which are encountered toxic insults. The role of oxidative stress and its associated events, as well as mitochondrial impairment (induced by xenobiotics or in the pathogenesis of different human diseases), is a research interest followed by our team.
