Helmut Rechberger is a full professor for Resource Management at Vienna University of Technology since 2003. He received his professional education in Vienna, at ETH Zurich, and at Yale. His research interests are: further development of evaluation methods and concepts in waste and resource management including statistical entropy; introduction of mathematical-statistical tools to Material Flow Analysis to consider data uncertainty; resource accounting; recovery of valuable substances from ashes and slag; waste characterization; investigation on morphological and chemical composition of urban stocks including dynamics. Under his lead the softwares BIOMA (efficient greenhouse gas accounting from waste incineration) and STAN (world-wide used for MFA studies) have been developed. His institute hosts the “Christian Doppler Laboratory on Anthropogenic Resources” and he is a faculty member of the “FWF Doctoral Programme on Water Resource Systems”.
