Ranjan Swarup

Dr Ranjan Swarup is a Plant Molecular Biologist and a world renowned expert on hormone regulated root development, authoring many highly cited papers describing the mechanisms controlling the regulation of auxin transport (Dharmasiri, Swarup et al 2006, Science, Peret et al Plant Cell 2012), root angle (Swarup et al, Nature Cell Biology, 2005), lateral root emergence (Swarup et al, Nature Cell Biology 2008) and root hair development (Jones et al, Nature Cell Biology, 2009; Bhosale et al Nature Communications 2018; Giri et al Nature Communications, 2018). He is currently leading a BBSRC-LINK grant investigating the role of phosphite in promoting plant development. Working with several industrial partners, his group has shown that foliar application of phosphite based formulations consistently enhances root growth and development in a range of crops (Rossall et al Acta Horticulturae, 2016).
