Rafael Sirera graduated in Biology and obtained his MSc in Biochemistry and PhD in Immunology from the University of Valencia, Spain. He also holds a MSc in Molecular Oncology form the European School of Oncology. He has worked in Centre du Medicament, University of Nancy, France; Experimental Immunology Unit, La Fe University Hospital of Valencia, Spain; and co-founded the Molecular Oncology Laboratory at the University General Hospital of Valencia in 2003. At present he is group leader at EoM (Excellence in Molecular Oncology), a Mixed Unit from Principe Felipe Research Centre and University General Hospital of Valencia that is member of CIBERonc (National network for oncology research). In 2008 gained a tenure as Associate Professor and in 2019 as Professor of Cell Biology at the Biotechnology Department in Universitat Politècnica de València. He is currently the the director of the Doctoral Program in Biotechnology and served as academic director of the Master of Biomedical Biotechnology, awarded the best master's degree from the UPV in 2013. Additionally in his academic activity, he has served in the Board of the University and in the Board if his College. He is director of the postgraduate course "Expert Title in Immunology and Immunotherapy in Cancer" at the Francisco de Vitoria University in its seven editions from 2016 to the present. He has created two MOOCs on immunology (at UPVx). He has directed 6 doctoral thesis, more than 40 BSc thesis, more than 40 MSc thesis. His main areas of interest are Experimental Immunology and Translational Oncology. Using liquid biopsy and pharmacogenomic approaches he has been pioneering the use of non-invasive prognostic and predictive biomarkers in precision oncology in non-small lung cancer patients. He has published more than 60 articles in journals indexed in JCR, his “h” index is 24 and his publications have been cited 2012 times. He is the author of more than 140 contributions to Congresses published in supplements to JCR scientific journals and has given 21 national and international conferences. He has been Investigator of 25 national and regional competitive projects; Researcher of 14 projects financed by Societies or Scientific Associations; and Investigator of 15 contracts with pharmaceutical companies. He has been recognised from the Ministry of Science and Innovation as an Outstanding Researcher Trajectory. He is the Editor in Chief of Inmunología, the official journal of Spanish Society for Immunology where he also served in the Board of Directors from 2017 to 2021. He is an Expert in the European Union Commission for the evaluation of scientific projects and grants and also for other national and international research agencies.
