Rossano Massai received the Laurea degree (cum laude) in agricultural sciences from the University of Pisa, Pisa, Italy, in 1981. In 1982 and 1988, he carried out research under the grants of Scuola Superiore di Studi Universitari Sant’Anna and Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, in France and USA, respectively. He was in Florianopolis, Brazil, Cabo Frio, Brazil, and Pelotas, Brazil, in 2004, 2006, and 2009–2010, respectively, for researchers’ exchange programs. He is currently a Full Professor with the Department of Agriculture, Food and Environment, University of Pisa, where he is teaching fruit tree sciences, trees and shrubs for no-food utilization, plant propagation and nursery techniques, forestry management impact on land use and landscape, woody and forestry ecosystems, and ornamental arboriculture. He is currently the Vice-Rector for students and the Right to Study, with responsibility for orientation and job placement. His main research works have dealt with abiotic stress resistance, water relations, gas exchange and water requirements in trees, influence of different cultural factors on quality and nutraceutical properties of fruits, evaluation of fruit quality by destructive and nondestructive methods, and breeding and evaluation of rootstocks for fruit trees. Prof. Massai is a member of the International Society for Horticultural Sciences, Società di Ortoflorofrutticoltura Italiana, and Accademia dei Georgofili. He was awarded the Order of the “Cherubino” from the University of Pisa, in April 2019. He is a reviewer for several international journals in this field, i.e., Scientia Horticulturae, Journal of Agricultural Science, Scientia Agricola, Agrochimica, Agricoltura Mediterranea, Italian Journal of Agronomy, and Sensors.
