Philip R. Kym

Dr. Phil Kym has been Executive Director of Drug Discovery Science & Technology since 2019 and Head of the AbbVie Medicinal Chemistry Leadership Team since 2018. In his career at Abbott/AbbVie, Phil has led teams that have discovered clinical candidates in the Neuroscience, Immunology, Oncology, Virology, Metabolic Disease, Cystic Fibrosis, and Pain therapeutic areas. He is an inventor of Foslevodopa/Foscarbidopa subcutaneous continuous infusion therapy for the symptomatic treatment of advanced Parkinson’s Disease. Phil received a B.A. in Chemistry from Goshen College, a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and completed an American Cancer Society Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Texas at Austin before starting his career at Abbott/AbbVie in 1996.
