Bio
Professor Peter Eastwood is an experienced Australian biomedical research scientist who has built an internationally recognised research programme in sleep and respiratory physiology.
He is also Director of the Raine Study, Foundation Director of the Centre for Sleep Science at the University of Western Australia, President of the Australasian Sleep Association, immediate past Deputy Director of the Lung Institute of Western Australia, and immediate past Editor in Chief of Respirology, the major respiratory journal in the Asian Pacific.
Professor Eastwood has published 251 scholarly works, including 182 refereed papers, 24 invited review articles, 9 book chapters, 14 editorials, 10 letters, and receives regular invitations to speak at major International and national scientific meetings. His current H-index is 62 (Google Scholar) or 49 (Scopus). He has received a total of $17.5 million in research funding including major national grants/fellowships (e.g. NHMRC project grants, NHMRC Senior Research Fellowship). He is currently supervising 1 postdoctoral fellows, 5 PhD students and has previously supervised 12 postdoctoral fellows, 15 PhD students, 4 Masters students, 36 Honours students, 3 Medical Students, and 4 Editorial office staff.
Professor Eastwood is the Immediate past Editor in Chief of Respirology, the major International respiratory journal in the Asian Pacific Region, has been a member of Editorial Boards of International and National journals, and previously served as member of the NHMRC Project Grant Assigners Academy, Project Grant and Training Awards Panels. He is a current member of World Sleep Society’s Global Sleep Health Taskforce. Past member of World Sleep Society Governing Council and representative for Asia/Australia; President of the Australasian Sleep Association; and member of the Program Committee of the American Thoracic Society. National roles in advocacy and promotion of health and medical research. Contributions to National health and research policy development within the respiratory and sleep specialties. Member of Board of Directors of the Australian Society for Medical Research (ASMR), National Convenor of ASMR Medical Research Week and Treasurer of the Australasian Sleep Association.
