Research in our laboratory focuses the Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) and NTD associated cancers. We are pursuing functional genomics and other approaches to characterize new interventions. Current projects include: Transmission and activities of transgenes through the developmental stages of schistosomes Insertional mutagenesis analysis of schistosome chromosomes Transgene endowed antibiotic selection of schistosomes Growth factors of helminth parasites in carcinogenesis of liver fluke induced bile duct cancer and schistosomiasis haematobia associated bladder cancer. Human population studies in northeastern Thailand on pathogenesis and biomarkers of Opisthorchis viverrini (liver fluke) induced bile duct cancer, in collaboration with colleagues at Khon Kaen University, Thailand, and James Cook University and the Queensland Institute of Medical Research, Australia Studies originating in Angolan patients on pathogenesis of schistosomiasis haematobia associated bladder cancer, in collaboration with colleagues at the University of Porto, Portugal and others
