Licenciado en Medicina y Cirugía en la Universidad de Navarra y especialista via MIR en Neurología. Desde entonces he trabajado en el campo de la asistencia, investigación y docencia en el campo del deterioro cognitivo en diversas instituciones como el Hospital Virgen del Camino de Pamplona, el Centro Psicogeriátrico Landazabal de Burlada, la Unidad de Trastornos de Memoria de la Clínica Universitaria de Navarra, Fundación Alzheimer Centre Educacional-Institut Catalá de Neurciències Aplicades en Barcelona, y el Centro de Investigación y terapias Avanzadas de Fundación CITA-alzheimer en San Sebastián. Me he especializado en la atención a personas con deterioro cognitivo y demencia y la investigación en enfermedad de Alzheimer, deterioro cognitivo vascular, y otras demencias con especial interés en la detección y diagnóstico temprano, el tratamiento y la prevención.
He has published papers on Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias and chapters on Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia in national and international books. His main research interests are now focused on the clinical, neuropsychological and neuroimaging characterization and outcome of pre-clinical Alzheimer’s disease, mild cognitive impairment, early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia and clinical aspects of focal atrophies and frontotemporal dementias.
He is a member of the Spanish Society of Neurology, the Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology of Navarra and a founding member of the International Society on Vascular behavioural and cognitive disorders (Vas-Cog). He has been the Coordinator of the Dementia Study Group of the Spanish Society of Neurology (2009-2012) and is a member of the Dementia Panel of the European Federation of Neurological Societies since November 2008. In 2010 he received the SEN (Sociedad Española de Neurología) Award to the best teaching activity in Neurology of the year together with Dr. Miguel Goñi. In 2012 he received the “Doctor of the year award” from the Spanish weekly health journal “A tu salud”.
