Brooks Peter

Peter Brooks AM is an Honorary Professorial Fellow in the Centre for Health Policy in the School of Population and Global Health at the University of Melbourne.He is also an Honorary Professor at the University of Tasmania. He was Executive Director of Research at Northern Health Epping, Melbourne ( 2012-2015 ) and Research Lead Northern Health ( 2016-2023 ). Peter Brooks has held previous posts as Director, Australian Health Workforce Institute (University of Melbourne 2008-2012) and was Executive Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at The University of Queensland from 1997 till 2009. He was Professor of Medicine at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney (University of New South Wales) 1990-1997, and the Foundation Professor of Rheumatology (University of Sydney) at the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney from 1982 to 1990. From 1978 to 1982 he was Senior Lecturer and then Associate Professor in Medicine at Flinders University, Adelaide. Before that he worked at the University of Tasmania (1975-1978) as Lecturer and Senior Lecturer in Medicine. He completed his medical training at Monash University in Melbourne and then studied rheumatology under Professor Watson Buchanan in Glasgow. Professor Brooks has published widely in the area of treatment and outcomes in arthritis and also has an interest in psychological aspects of rheumatology. Professor Brooks served on a number of editorial boards of international rheumatology journals and has played leadership roles in OMERACT, ILAR and the Bone and Joint Decade.
