Dr. Ortblad is a population health scientist whose research focuses on delivery models for HIV prevention interventions that operate outside healthcare clinics. She is currently a Senior Fellow working with Drs. Jared Baeten and Renee Heffron in the Department of Global Health. As a fellow she is directing a randomized trial that explores the use of HIV self-testing (HIVST) to decrease the number of PrEP clinic visits and a study to design and test a model for PrEP delivery that has never been tried in an African setting: pharmacy-based PrEP delivery (both in Kenya). Dr. Ortblad recently received independent research funding to design and test a model for pharmacy-based PrEP refills (CFAR New Investigator Award) and a model for peer PrEP referral + HIV self-test delivery (K99/R00 Award), both which aim to increase PrEP initiation and continuation among individuals at HIV risk in Kenya.
