Dr. Okechukwu Ogah is a Consultant Physician/Cardiologist to the foremost University Teaching Hospital in Nigeria- University College Hospital, Ibadan and currently the Commissioner for Health in God’s own State. He graduated with MBBS degree in Medicine/Surgery (1995) and Masters Degree in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the prestigious University of Ibadan, Diploma in Bioethics, West African Bioethics centre, Ibadan, Certificate in Epidemiology and Global Health, University of Dundee, UK and is presently running a PhD program at University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. In 1998, Dr Ogah commenced his postgraduate residency training in Medicine/Cardiology at the University College Hospital Ibadan which he completed on record time in 2004 and was awarded the fellowship of the West African College of Physicians. He started his medical career at University college Hospital, Ibadan were he had his internship (1995-1996). Thereafter has worked in several places such as Federal Medical Centrer Abeokuta as a medical officer, Department of Medicine, University College Hospital Ibadan as Registrar and then as Senior Registrar. He later worked with Igbinedion University/Igbinedion University teaching Hospital, Okada as Lecturer/Consultant Cardiologist respectively, University college Hospital Ibadan as Consultant Physician/Cardiologist and Abia state Ministry of Health as Commissioner for Health. His postgraduate training in Internal Medicine/ Cardiology took him to prestigious institutions such as king’s college Hospital in London and the Heart centre in Leipzig, Germany. He has authored or co-authored over 50 publications in learned national and international medical journals and has presented or co-presented over 60 papers in local and international scientific conferences. He is also in the editorial board of Nigerian Journal of Cardiology and the World Journal of Cardiology. Dr Ogah is happily married to Fisayo (nee Awoleye) and they are blessed with four children.
