Olivier Merlin received the engineering degree in nuclear physics from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Physique de Grenoble, Grenoble, France, in 2000, the M.S. degree in techniques for space from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de l'Aéronautique et de l'Espace, Toulouse, France, in 2001, and the Ph.D. degree in remote sensing and hydrology from the Université Paul Sabatier, Toulouse, France, in 2005.
He is notably recognized for his work in developing original methods that improve the spatial resolution of satellite data and spatialize hydrological processes more realistically. In addition to methodological developments, he has applied his skills to themes of high societal interest associated with agricultural production and risk prevention. In 2008, he joined CNRS as a Researcher with CESBIO, Toulouse, France. He has supervised 15 Ph.D., coordinated several French ANR and European projects, and animated cross-disciplinary themes. He was seconded with IRD, Marseille, France, to the University of Cadi Ayyad, Marrakesh, Morocco, from 2013 to 2017. He has been involved in the exploitation of SMOS data, from 2010, and is currently contributing to the preparation of the TRISHNA mission. His research interests include the use of multisensor remote sensing to monitor changes in water resources.
