During my Chemistry Degree at the University of Santiago de Compostela (2000-2006) my bond with the laboratory skills started using different analytical techniques to determine contaminants in real Galician shellfish samples and fish feed. The experience acquired in the laboratory from developing experiments to guaranteeing a right functioning of that, took me to start my PhD in Chemical Oceanography at the Marine Research Institute - Spanish National Research Council (IIM-CSIC) in 2008 awarded with a Predoctoral Grant (Jae-Predoc 2008). The obvious change in the areas of study meant to me a big challenge that I successfully passed demonstrated my skills of easy learnt, adaptability and effort to work in group, apart from improving my independent thinking. So, from 2008 my main area of study was the CO2 system in seawater, involving the pH, total alkalinity, dissolved inorganic carbonate and ion carbonate measurements and also dissolved oxygen measurements and the anthropogenic CO2 estimation in the ocean, particularly in the North Atlantic Ocean. Those measurements with their first and second quality control, the knowledge in water mass distribution and international database management obtained of cruises and laboratory experience were compiled in my Thesis “Temporal changes in natural and anthropogenic CO2 along the North Atlantic Ocean” defended in 2013. Since that, I followed the specific CO2 in seawater related research, worked first as a Research Associate in the Marine research Institute (IIM-CSIC, 2013-2014) and later (2017-2019), as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Spanish Oceanographic Institute (IEO) - Oceanographic centre of A Coruña awarded with the Spanish competitive call Juan de la Cierva - formación call 2015. At the IEO, the research areas followed the same outline introducing slight differences linked to the inner structural lines, where weekly, monthly and annually there are from coast to open ocean cruises to only coastal cruises. The hydrographic and biogeochemical variables were controlled and measured with sensors together with analytical measurements of CO2 system measurable variables. At the beginning of 2021 I was reincorporated as Scientific and technical staff at Spanish Oceanographic Institute (IEO) - Oceanographic centre of A Coruña, followed the previous work lines. Recently in August 2021, I have back as Research Associate at Marine Research Institute - Spanish National Research Council (IIM - CSIC) to collaborate in the DIMCoVAR project, accepting again a new challenge to apply my acquired knowledge and improve then in a new and actual specific area, the detection of SARS-CoV-2 in water samples.
