Nilson Penha-Silva has a degree in Pharmacy and Biochemistry and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Immunology from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). He developed postdoctoral studies in Biochemistry at Southern Illinois University (SIU) and the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB). He is currently a full professor at the Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU). He teaches Biochemistry for the Undergraduate Program in Medicine and Enzymology and Biology of Aging for the Graduate Program in Genetics and Biochemistry. He has experience in Biochemistry, emphasizing Enzymology and Metabolism, and in the Biology of Aging, focusing on Mechanisms of Aging. He has scientific expertise on the topics: 1) kinetics and thermodynamics of biological processes, especially the stability of proteins, membranes, and red blood cells, and 2) metabolism, both in 1) health and 2) chronic degeneration (aging and chronic degenerative diseases). He is a member of # 483 of the Brazilian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SBBq) and # 202938964 of the American Society for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).
