Nigel Smale

Nigel Smale received the B.Eng. (Hons) degree for electrical and electronic engineering from Oxford Brookes University in 1995, and the D.Phil. degree in 2005. His doctorate dissertation was with a thesis title of 'Multi-Anode Photon Multiplier Readout Electronics for the LHCb Ring Imaging Cherenkov Detectors. The qualification was given from Division of Mathematical & Physical Sciences, sub-department of Particle & Nuclear Physics, University of Oxford, St Anne's College, in February 2005. He then accepted the position of Research Engineer from the Particle & Nuclear Physics Department, University of Oxford, U.K. From 2005 to 2007, he took a scientific position with Max-Planck-Institut fuer Kernphysik, Heidelberg, Germany, working with detector readout chips for High Energy Physics application for LHC and GERDA. At the end of 2007, he joined Machine physics group at the ANKA synchrotron, Karlsruhe, Germany. His main interests are instrumentation and detector development.
