Niall Hanrahan

I am a Research Fellow in the Molecular Biophotonics & Imaging group at the University of Southampton. I work in an interdisciplinary research group on the development of volumetric and label-free imaging techniques for bioimaging, and on building imaging and microscopy systems to enable these developments. In 2016 I completed my MSc in Chemistry by Research and started my PhD research, also at the University of Southampton, on novel label-free imaging techniques for light sheet microscopy and their application to bioimaging problems. I completed my PhD (“Label-free Light Sheet Microscopy for 3D Imaging of Biological Specimens”) in 2020. Alongside my PhD research, I worked on a range of projects centred on Raman spectromicroscopy and multi-photon imaging, with a strong focus on bioimaging, as well as on projects concerning bacteria deactivation using UV illumination. My primary research focus remains the development of novel label-free imaging techniques for microscopy and their application in the life sciences.
