Prof. Nattiya Hirankarn received her MD from Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University and a PhD in Microbiology and Immunology from Georgetown Medical Center. She is currently an Associate Dean for Graduate Affairs, Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University and former chair of Department of Microbiology, King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, Thai Red Cross Society. She is a director of Medical Sciences Program (MS and PhD) and serve as curriculum committee for various programs including Medical Microbiology (MS and PhD), Biomedical Sciences and Biotechnology (Joint PhD between Chulalongkorn University and University of Liverpool). Her research interest is mainly focused on immunogenetics and biomarker in autoimmune and immune mediated diseases which are major health problems in Thailand. She is a member of Asian lupus genetics consortium and works in collaboration with researchers in Thailand and from University of Hong Kong to elucidate genetic risk factor of SLE in Asia. Another major area of research interest is in genetics and biomarkers for cancers particularly in chronic hepatitis B and hepatocellular carcinoma and lung cancer which is a major problem in Thailand. In 2017, she was appointed to be a director of Cancer Immunotherapy Excellence Center and led the research team to conduct basic and clinical research. She has coordinated the first phase I clinical research projects for PiggyBac Transposon anti-CD19 CAR T cells in hematologic malignancies and Personalized Neoantigen Cancer Vaccine in Thailand. In April 2023, Prof.Nattiya initiates the establishment of Thailand Hub of Talent in Cancer Immunotherapy (TTCI) with Faculty of Medicine from Mahidol University, Prince of Songkla University and Khon Kaen University aiming to promoting cancer treatment research with a focus on developing efficient implementation immunotherapy in the hospitals.
