N. Martínez-Carreras

Núria Martínez Carreras is a Senior R&T Associate in experimental hydrology at the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST). Before moving to Luxembourg, she studied Environmental Science at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), got a PhD from the University of Barcelona (UB), and worked at the Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research (CSIC, Barcelona). Her work primarily focuses on sediment transport and tracing, and rainfall runoff transformation processes at catchment scale. Núria's qualification build on her personal experience as a researcher in multiple projects funded by the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) [BIGSTREAM, ECSTREAM, FIELDSPEC-PoC and SOWAT projects], that she helped design and implement. She was also involved in multidisciplinary bilateral projects funded by the FNR and the German Research Foundation [CAOS and CAOS2 projects], as well as the French National Research Agency [MOBISED project]. As a next career step, she developed her own research line and successfully acquired funding as a Principal Investigator (PI) [SAMPLER21, PAINLESS and SED-ACROSS projects]. The SAMPLER21 project was funded through the FNR Proof-of-concept scheme and led to the development of a high capacity, automatic and small-volume water sampler. The PAINLESS project is funded through the FNR Junior CORE scheme and aims at using a submerged spectrophotometer for estimating suspended sediment properties at high frequency. For this project she built a consortia with researchers from Rothamsted Research (UK) and the University of Southampton (UK). Recently, she has also collaborated with the Luxembourg Water Agency [SED-ACROSS project]. Through her involvement in the project mentioned above, she gained managerial skills, demonstrated the ability to publish (more than 30 co-authored peer reviewed scientific papers, with 9 as lead author) and to establish collaborations with external partners.
