Since joining the Marie Curie Palliative Care Research Department, Nuriye has contributed to various programmes of work. As a mixed methods researcher, Nuriye worked on the COMPASSION programme assessing the clinical symptom burden of people with advanced dementia in care homes, as well as looking at the health and social care needs of their carers. Currently, Nuriye is a Co-Investigator for the ESRC/NIHR Empowering Better End of life Dementia Care programme. She is leading a workstream exploring unmet palliative care needs of people living with dementia and its association with quality of life, care transitions and carer experiences.
Nuriye has recently completed an Alzheimer's Society fellowship focusing on family carers’ experiences of compassion while caring for someone living with dementia and its impact on carer wellbeing. This mixed-methods programme involved developing and evaluating a new tool to assess how compassion is experienced and using the tool to test if and how compassion may be linked to adverse psychological and behavioural outcomes.
