I study change — the detection and estimation of it. And the systems I examine typically enjoy a step-intensity-driven Poisson process framework that evolves in continuous time.
A telecom network might be better managed if an imminent change in call patterns is successfully anticipated or inhabitants of a volcanic neighborhood relocated to safety if the eruption rate is found to have increased. Forecasts are easily extractable if data within blocks are identically distributed and change-points are crucial in defining these blocks.
During my doctoral studies, exploiting the principle of time switching, I, in collaboration with my advisor, Dr. Chih-Hsiang Ho, developed a test that extorts insights into the way a stable process, corrupted by one or more changes, deviates from staying stable. A placid construct, strong intuitive backing, and ready reproducibility adore the setup. My current research seeks to fuel its theoretical promise, and applications often drag me to computer science, reliability, finance, geoscience, and oceanography. Currently, I'm interested in viewing network analytics, repairable systems, text mining, and stylometrics through the lens of change detection. Channels through which to vent the technology, thus, remain varied. The fact that I'm smitten by change, however, will resist change.
