Research topic and relevance
Michael Tyers studies the structure and control of biological interaction networks at the protein, genetic and chemical level. His group has implemented systematic proteomic, genetic, phenotypic and chemical-genetic screens to interrogate and manipulate network function, with a focus on the control of cell growth and division by the ubiquitin-proteasome system, in both yeast and human cell systems. His group also uses biophysical, biochemical, structural and mathematical modelling methods to understand the dynamics of protein recognition within these networks. Most recently, his group has developed a synthetic biology platform to discover natural-product like molecules as novel chemical probes and early stage drug leads.
