Dr. Charlton is Past President to the International Liver Transplant Society and is a member of numerous professional societies. He is a member of the AASLD NAFLD and past member of HCV Practice Guidelines writing groups. In addition, he has served as an Associate Editor for Transplantation, American Journal of Transplantation, Hepatology, Liver Transplantation and was a founding Associate Editor for Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

Dr. Charlton’s clinical practice areas of focus are liver transplantation, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and viral hepatitis. Dr. Charlton has been a principal investigator in several National Institutes of Health grants including a study of the pathobiological basis of the histological spectrum of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

Dr. Charlton has been a principal investigator on numerous clinical studies in nonalcoholic steatohepatitis and viral hepatitis C.
