Mel Mckendrick

I graduated from The University of Glasgow with an MA (Hons) in Psychology in 2006, remaining there as a Research Assistant until 2008, obtaining an MRes in Research Methods in 2007 and PhD in Psychology in 2013, both from The University of Strathclyde. After working as a Research Fellow (2012-14), I joined Heriot-watt as an Assistant Professor in 2014. My research includes social cognition, anxiety and attention. I am also Entrepreneur in Residence with a remit to develop a Medical Education Lab with the aim of bringing healthcare training problems together with technology solutions. Further to my academic work, I am CEO of Optomize Ltd., which provides eye-tracking and human factors research services, prototype testing and software solutions for medical training.
