Al-Sid-Cheikh Maya

I am an ECR, having started my first academic post at the University of Surrey in October 2019 as a Lecturer in Environmental Analytical Chemistry, specialising in tracking Contaminants of Emerging Concerns (CECs) in interface systems. Following a multidisciplinary education in physics, chemistry and oceanography, I successfully started my research career in Canada by developing techniques to track radiolabelled metallic nanoparticles in organisms. I subsequently brought this development back to Europe where I am now on a path to lead the investigations on CECs. Newly established at the University of Surrey, I am setting up my team and new state-of-the-art laboratory with a critical mass and multiple competencies in synthesis chemistry, analytical chemistry, physics, biology, ecotoxicology. To create my new laboratory, the Applied-RadioIsotope & Environmental Laboratory (ARIEL), I was recently awarded a prestigious strategic funding for infrastructure and equipment by the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC).
