个人简介
Martin Walther received the Diploma degree in physics from the
University of Stuttgart, Stuttgart, Germany, in 1988, and the Ph.D. degree from the Technical University of Munich,
Munich, Germany, in 1993. From 1993 to 1995, he was working on quantum functional devices at Motorola Inc., Phoenix,
AZ, USA.
Then, he joined the Paul-Drude-Institut, Berlin, Germany, as Project Manager for integrated compound semiconductor
microsystems. Since August 1996, he has been with the Fraunhofer Institut for Applied Solid State Physics IAF,
Freiburg, Germany, where he is currently the Deputy Director and Head of the Department for Epitaxy and Infrared
Devices. His current research interests include the development of quantum functional infrared detectors for advanced
thermal imaging systems, epitaxial growth and materials development for new detectors and lasers as well as the
improvement of high-frequency electronic devices.
Dr. Walther holds several patents and has authored or co-authored more than 130 scientific publications. He received
the “Stifterpreis der Deutschen Wissenschaft” award for his work on infrared detectors for thermographic
imaging in 2001, the “Landesforschungspreis Baden Württemberg 2002” award for his work on high power
diode lasers with excellent beam quality and the “Landesforschungspreis Baden Württemberg 2006” award
for bi-spectral infrared imaging systems.
