My research interests focus on the thermal biology, ecophysiology, ecotoxicology and ecology of earthworms, springtails, insects and other invertebrates including the physiological and biochemical adaptations to cold and heat stress. My main scientific contribution is research within the adaptations of soil animals to abiotic stressors such as cold and drought with special emphasis on polar invertebrates. This research has used tools such as transcription of candidate genes, membrane fluidity and membrane lipid biochemistry. I have expert experience with field and laboratory studies addressing these problems, and the use of soil invertebrates as models in such studies. Lately, my research has been focused on the consequences of global climatic changes on soil invertebrates and other invertebrates.
