In our laboratory we study the plasma membrane calcium ATPase (PMCA) a transport membrane protein of cells. Its function is to remove calcium (Ca2+) from the cell. PMCA function is vital for regulating the amount of Ca2+ within all eukaryotic cell in calcium cell homeostasis. The long-range goal of my research is to characterize at a molecular level the interaction between PMCA and several ligands to get information about the structure, function and physiological implications of this pump.
