Maria Jose Valenzuela Bell

Maria Jose V. Bell was born in Chile in 1967. She received the B.Sc. degree in physics from the Federal University of Paraná, Paraná, Brazil, in 1989, the M.Sc. degree in physics from the Physics Institute of São Carlos—University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil, in 1993, and the D.Sc. degree from the University of Campinas (UNICAMP), Campinas, Brazil, in 1997, for her work in optical spectroscopy in delta doping semicondutors. In March 2000, she became Associate Professor at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora, Brazil. Her current research interests include: spectroscopic properties (determination radiative and nonradiative rates by using Judd Ofelt and the Dexter theory, respectively; energy transfer processes; quantum efficiency; effects of impurities on the performance of systems, etc) of polymers, semiconductors, glasses and rare earths ions using mainly absorption (from the ultraviolet to the mid infrared region), luminescence, lifetime and Raman techniques; thermal properties of semiconductors by using the thermal lens technique; high-power solid-state lasers, etc.
