I am a Soil Scientist and Chemist with experience not only in the academy but also in the private sector. Ihave developed my career in an international environment with high autonomy. In particular, I have worked in 8 research institutions in 5 different countries, mainly funded by highly competitive individual fellowships and research grants: CSIC JAE_predoc, FP7 EXPEER grant, Agreenskills Cofund Marie Curie, Juan de la Cierva – Incorporación, and CAM Atracción de Talento. Besides Italian and Spanish, I am fluent in English and French. During my PhD at IRNAS-CSIC (Seville), I built up a technical portfolio, including NMR, enzymatic activities, soil biomarkers, that I have extensively used to determine soil quality in several ecosystems, from degraded and contaminated areas to agricultural fields, without losing the focus on agricultural productivity. After finishing my PhD, I spent more than 3 years as postdoctoral researcher in France applying stable isotope probing to monitor C fluxes in agroecosystems at INRAE (Grignon-Paris) and at the University of Burgundy (Dijon). In 2017, I worked as R&D manager in a company focused on urban agriculture and circular economy. This experience challenged me to apply my knowledge and my problem-solving skills in an innovative company, giving me the inspiration to develop my own research line on urban agriculture. With this research idea, I obtained an individual research grant from “Atracción de Talento” from Comunidad de Madrid. Since April 2020 I am an Associate researcher at the Instituto de Ciencias Agrarias (ICA-CSIC, Madrid) developing my own research line on urban agriculture, green roofs for horticultural production, organic amendments from urban waste and characterization of organic matter and biochars (project MadreenRoof), in the “Soil organic matter, environmental waste management, and global change” group. I am also participating in several international cooperation projects with France, Colombian, Chile and Ecuador. My future research line will dig deep into the mechanisms behind the organic carbon persistence into agroecosystems. I will combine compound specific soil analysis with on-field monitoring of carbon fluxes and preservation patterns of carbon inputs into simplified soilless systems, to work at different scales and modifying the level of complexity of the soil matrix.
