Research summary
Haroun's main research interests are in the areas of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) and safety and loss prevention in the oil and gas industries, particularly pipeline rupture failure consequence assessment using multiphase CFD modelling. His award winning work in CCS includes coordinating the EC FP7 and H2020 projects, CO2PipeHaz, CO2QUEST and C4U involving the collaboration between academics and industry partners in 12 European countries, China, Canada and USA. Receiving the 2016 IChemE Global Process Safety Highly Commended Award projects have resulted in over 140 publications and the construction of large-scale world class pipeline rupture test facilities and unique measurements of multi-phase flow behavior during rapid decompression.
