His research interests center around developing evidence-based herbal products. As of 2018, he has h-index of 22 in Scopus with more than 1839 citations to his work. He has given numerous invited talks and tutorials, and is a consultant to companies involved in herbal medicine and nutraceuticals.
Currently, he is an active member of the Egyptian Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT) and the Egyptian Drug Research Council. Dr. Meselhy received an Incentive Award from the Medical and Pharmaceutical Society for Traditional Medicine in Japan in 1999, and then a State Award in Medical and Biological Sciences from the Egyptian Academy of Science and Technology in 2000.
