Marylene Lejeune

I received my B.Sc. Degree in Medical Biology in 1990 and my Ph.D. Degree in 1995 from the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, Free University of Brussels. Since 1995 I enjoyed different grants in the Hematology-Oncology Department of “Saint-Pierre” University Hospital of Brussels (Belgium, 1995-1998), in the Immunology Department of the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona (Spain, 1999-2002) and in the Anatomy Pathology Department of the Verge de la Cinta Hospital of Tortosa (HTVC, Spain, 2003-present). During all this time I have been involved in several projects of investigation related to the study of immune response in AIDS and cancer. Nowadays, I am the co-coordinator of the Molecular Biology and Research Section at the Hospital of Tortosa performing also clinical tasks (2006-present). In addition, I am the co-coordinator of the research group in Oncological Pathology and Bioinformatics in Pere Virgili Health Research Institute (2009-present). The group has two complementary lines of investigation which might conduct to the discovery of new biomarkers present in the tumor microenvironment that are involved in the development of breast cancer and lymphomas. These biomarkers could be useful as future therapeutic targets or in the development of new personalized treatments or in the administration of the current treatments in a more suitable way. The methods of image analysis could also have a direct applicability in daily practice or new pathological research. Since 2009 I am also the coordinator of the HTVC- IISPV Biobank node and from February 2013 to December 2018 I have been the Scientific Director of Terres de l’Ebre Health Care Management area of the Catalan Health Institute (ICS) (Catalonia, Spain). During all these years, I participated in more than 20 scientific research projects. I have conducted and participated in the publication of more than 70 articles in journals included in the Science Citation Index (SCI). I have published as first author or co-authored six book chapters. I have participated in more than 100 communications to national and international conferences and more than 13 invited lectures.
