Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) is important for membrane protein folding and homeostasis. Cell intrinsic or microenvironmental stress, such as oncogenic stress, hypoxia, and ROS, can accumulate unfolded or misfolded proteins in ER, which is kind of stress to ER. To relief the ER stress, the Unfolded Protein Response (UPR) is activated. We are currently using preclinical models and cell-based assays to investigate the function and underlying mechanism of the UPR in cancer progression, and try to develop mechanism-based combination therapy for cancer.
