Over 30 years in cell and molecular biology, virology, immunology, and specialized in gene- and cell-based therapies, and an inventor of the most affordable and innovative gene transfer technologies, Prof. Chang has engineered innovative gene therapy vectors and target-oriented immune cell therapies that have helped hundreds of patients who suffer from various types of dreadful diseases.
He served as a member of lnternational Committee and Viral Vector Committee of the AmericanSociety for Gene and Cell Therapy (AsGcT), and served as Editor-in-Chief of Current Gene Therapy, and an editoriaboard member in multiple international journals. Dr. Chang's research Interests have been on developing lentiviravectors as gene transfer tools and using innovative approaches to study the development of stem cells and functionaimmune cells. His research projects have been funded by multiple national and international funds total more than30 milion US dollars. The emphasis of research has been to translate basic science into clinical treatment for geneticdiseases, infectious diseases and cancer. Research activities include characterization of cellular and immunemodulatory factors that are essential to the development of protective immunity in patients. innovativeimmunotherapy approaches are developed for the treatment of infections and cancer. The long-term goal is totranslate basic scientific discovery into clinical applications.
