Luke studies historical patterns (mainly in DNA) resulting from biotic interactions at the scale of plant domestication and insect species range shifts induced by humans to the domestication of plastids and mitochondria by eukaryotic cells. He employs tools from molecular biology, phylogeography, population genetics, and phylogenetics to uncover and assess these patterns.
