Lucy C Stewart

I am an environmental microbiologist specialising in the microbiology of high-temperature environments. I study the interface between the biosphere and geosphere by characterising and cultivating thermophilic micro-organisms that grow using inorganic substrates such as metals, sulfur compounds, and hydrogen. My current project is to characterise the microbial diversity of high-temperature environments - subaerial and submarine - along the offshore Kermadec Arc, northeast of New Zealand.
